In order to educate 90 young women entrepreneurs in the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) programme, the US Embassy in Dhaka partnered with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) at the BRAC University of Bangladesh. The BRAC University's Badda campus held a graduation ceremony for these young aspiring women entrepreneurs on Sunday.
Megan Bouldin, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, emphasized the US government's commitment to women's economic empowerment and gender-inclusive growth. 78 women entrepreneurs from Bangladesh completed the second cohort of a US-funded program.
"Congratulations to the remarkable women who completed the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) programme this year," said Bouldin. "You are paving the way for future generations of women entrepreneurs and proving that women have a critical role in Bangladesh's economic development."
Six AWE participants were awarded for their exceptional business pitches, and a $30,000 grant was revealed for a business pitch competition. The event showcased graduates' entrepreneurial abilities, with many from marginalized communities. The AWE program empowers women through online education and soft skills enhancement through collaboration with Arizona State University.
The US Embassy and BRAC University's Center for Entrepreneurship Development partnered to empower women entrepreneurs and foster SMEs in Bangladesh. The three-month course emphasizes sustainability, peer learning, and networking, aligning with the US National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality.
