Changemakers: Women Innovating in Indian Advertising

Advertising is an indispensable part of the business realm. For as long as commodities have been sold and bought in the market, advertising has been in play.

In the modern world, the importance of advertising and marketing has grown manifolds. With stiff market competitions, ample choices for consumers etc, it has become imperative for brands to highlight their products and services in the most efficient and affective manner to attain success.

Needless to say, advertising as an industry has only been growing from strength to strength. According to IMARC Group, in 2022, the Indian advertising space was worth INR 743.0 Billion. Going forward, the market will be worth INR 1,412.5 Billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 11.2% between 2023 and 2028.

This growth spurt is being powered by a host of factors including entry of new-age entertainment & media channels, rise of digital advertising solutions, rise of need for brand advertising etc.

The one area where Indian advertising industry lacked was diversity in its ranks. It has traditionally been known to be a male-dominated industry. Be it the creative side or the busienss side, advertising has always been a boy’s club.

However, the need for a female perpective is at an all time high in today’s times. And women leaders have risen to the challenge with aplomb. Women advertisers have been gradually working towards making the industry a more inclusive and diverse space.

The current edition of Women Entrepreneur India celevrates a few such pionereing women. Read the story of Somdatta Banerjee Acharyya, Founder and CEO, Think Tag Advertising. Somdatta holds a BSc in Chemistry from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, and an MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis Center for Management and HRD (SCMHRD). She began her career in the pharmaceutical industry, later, she transitioned to brand management and marketing roles, working with renowned companies. Her journey led her to explore brand consulting and launch an advertising agency - Think Tag Advertising in 2011, along with a friend, where she combines her strategic expertise with creative services to help businesses thrive.

She is joined in the list by Avlokita Dayal, Co-founder, Amplify. Avlokita is a visionary entrepreneur, renowned for her expertise in digital marketing strategies and creative design integration. As the Co-Founder of Amplify, she leads with innovation, shaping impactful campaigns that elevate brands and engage diverse audiences. With a keen understanding of human behaviour stemming from her background in psychology and management, Avlokita tailors marketing strategies that resonate with diverse audiences, enriching customer experiences and ensuring brands achieve their objectives effectively.
