The acknowledged name in Kannada cinema, Kavitha Lankesh, has also made a unique space for herself as one of the rare and powerful women lyricists of the industry; her contribution reflects the heritage of women poets in Indian cinema. Beginning her ventures in documentaries and then transitioning to feature films, she wove the narrative with lyricism and poetry.
Winning the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for Tananam Tananam marked a rare landmark entry of a woman into the field. The ladies' words carry heavy emotional weight, and in truth, they are colored by culture. Kavitha is a strong woman who does not bow either to the limits of her art or to those imposed by gender stereotypes upon Kannada lyricists.
