Automotive industry was formerly a men's industry where women were not very welcome. It was considered as a job impossible or hard for women. Even learning Automobile and Mechanical streams in colleges were not suggested to girls and it was said that girls don't have much job prospect if they learn these streams. There were even some theories offered traditionally saying that, men are overtly curious about their automobiles which made them the perfect candidates to lead the industry. With changing times, the contribution of women in the success of the automotive industry has broken down some unfounded and even hazardous stereotypes.

In today's age of cutting edge technology the industries are being more inclusive prioritising the skills of the candidates, rather than judging them upon their gender. Today, there are women in boardrooms and leading roles even in some of the top automotive companies around the world. Indian automotive companies are also showing much progress in being gender inclusive. Some of the top product oriented and software oriented automotive companies in the country have women in the leading roles. Situations have made core companies in campus drives in favour of girls.

According to a study by Deloitte, women account for 27 percent of the US auto manufacturing workforce. In India also there has been a visible increase in the number of women opting for jobs in the automotive sector in the past few years.
