Shubhangi Kulkarni

Shubhangi Kulkarni is one of the earliest torchbearers of Indian women’s cricket, remembered for her exceptional leg-spin and all-round contributions during an era of limited resources and visibility. A former India captain, she played 19 Tests and 27 ODIs between 1976 and 1991, finishing with over 100 international wickets. Her match-winning spells and leadership laid the foundation for India’s rise in women’s cricket. Retiring in 1991, Kulkarni’s legacy extends beyond the field. She became a key administrator, co-founded the Women’s Cricket Association of India, and played a pivotal role in integrating women’s cricket into the BCCI.
