Being one of the oldest businesses in the industry, textile and clothing industry hold a unique importance in our country,(with domestic apparel & textile) contributing to two percent of the GDP which means 14 percent of the entire manufacturing sector GDP. And, in terms of employment, it tends to offer the largest job opportunities providing direct employment to an estimated 35 million people, after the agriculture sector. Well, it can be said it is because the industry has great demands by every class of the demography and every two of five businesses are led by SMEs who dedicatedly drive growth amidst the industry manufacturing best fabrics and creating designer & trendy apparels.

Also, a greater employment in this field is constituted of women who have a history of working in various capacities and helping create textiles and presenting exclusively designed clothes in the market as fabrics or readymade apparels. They have a large say in the prosperity of the craft of the textiles. Though the Indian textile and garment industry employs 45 million people recently, out of which more than 60 percent are women, the industry needs more and more women not only as helpers but leaders who define the strategic journey for the industry establishing their businesses or leading the prolific omnipresent companies.

Not only women are the great creators of textiles in the Textile and Clothes industry today but the buyers too driven by their love for colours, comfort and evolving fashion trends. Well, there are many women leaders in the Textile and Clothes industry who have made exemplary contributions in the space, and they need to be celebrated for it.
