According to a formal announcement, up to 15% of pilots in India are female, which is over three times the global average of 5%.
Nevertheless, it said that at the moment there is no specific government policy to support pilot training for women and members of the SC/ST and other disadvantaged classes.
Also, 67 foreign pilots are now employed by various air carriers in the nation, according to the report.
The announcement stated that 244 pilots had been hired as of 2021, according to statistics from major Indian scheduled airlines, and that according to industry forecasts, the nation may need 1,000 pilots year over the following five years.
The announcement claimed that the yearly need for commercial pilots is dependent on a number of variables, including the financial stability of an airline, its development plans, and the expansion of the aviation industry.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), 67 foreign nationals are among the 10,000 pilots working for different domestic airlines in India.
Throughout the nation, there are 35 Flight Training Organizations (FTOs) that have been approved by the DGCA and are now operating out of 53 locations.
