9 DECEMBER2025When commemorating Constitution Day, President Droupadi Murmu also recog-nized the efforts of Members of Parlia-ment in demonstrating through their ac-tions a true commitment towards the ideals set forth in the Constitution.Additionally, she expressed an excitement regarding Member of Parliament's ongoing success within their re-spective communities and careers.Following up with her earlier statements, President Murmu discussed Dr B.R. Ambedkar's accomplishments as the Chairperson of the Drafting Committee, including how significantly Dr. Ambedkar influenced writing the Constitution of India, and where the Constitution was written and finalised on 26 November 1949 on the floor of the Central Hall by the Constituent Assembly. The Con-stituent Assembly also acted as India's final Parliament until independence.President Murmu stated several examples of new leg-islation created for social progress and national devel-opment, such as prohibiting triple talaq; GST; repealing Article 370; and developing the Nari Shakti Bandhan Act.These examples indicate that as time has gone for-ward there has been a steady progression to improve the role of women in Indian society.Honouring one hundred fifty years of 'Vande Mataram', India's National Anthem, the President chal-lenged all attendees to recommit to the ideals contained in the Constitution: Justice, Liberty, and other democratic rights. The President joined with the Members of Parlia-ment to recite the Preamble of the Constitution.The President also presented nine translations of the Constitution: Malayalam; Marathi; Nepali; Punjabi; Bodo; Kashmiri; Telugu; Odia; and Assamese. The Constitution of India was passed on 26 November 1949 and came into force on 26 January 1950, and it declares India a Sover-eign Democratic Republic.It is the longest written constitution in existence to-day. The Constitution describes how the Government (made up of the Three Branches), Courts, and the Legis-lature will function, and it also asserts that the Constitu-tion is the Supreme Law of the Land.
