4 September2022Editor NoteClimate Change is real & the Time to Act is NOW!Over the past few weeks Pakistan and Afghanistan have been at the receiving end of record rainfall which has had devastating results. As Pakistan received more than five times of the average (30 year) rainfall in some provinces more than 33 million people have been affected over the country. Over 1200 people have lost their lives and more than 6000 have been injured. While on one side water has been creating havoc on the other we have forest fires that have been raging and ravaging forest land. According to an analysis of global data, forest fires today burn almost twice the amount of tree covers than 20 years ago. Since the turn of the century, 2021 has been the single most devastating years for forest fires and has seen loss of over 9.3 million hectares of tree cover globally. Such stories have become an everyday occurrence. It's time we wake up and smell the coffee; climate change is real and it is here! The only chance that humanity has of saving our future generations is by making a drastic change in our lifestyle and consumption pattern. Moving to renewable or green energy is no longer a luxury but a grave necessity of the times. Although a little slow yet India has been making strides at adopting greener energy systems. The Indian renewable energy market is currently the fourth most desirable renewable energy market in the world. This growth can be attributed to the government's resolve towards making India a green economy. PM Modi has set a lofty goal that by 2030 523 GW of renewable energy capacity will be installed. Another crucial factor pushing India's strides towards renewable energy is the awakening of enterprising entrepreneurs who are committed to build a green India for tomorrow. Take for instance Rena Ghai, the MD of Green Ice Solutions. A resident of NCRs Faridabad which also happens to be one of the most highly polluted cities in the country. She realized that there was just one Solar Plant in such a densely-polluted place. Fuelled by her passion for the environment and to provide a solution to the inaccessibility of Solar at any level, she decided to be the lone Trojan and developed a strategy of concept selling Solar Power to some of the largest polluters in the city. We also have the shining example of Sunita Devi and Geeta Joshi, Co-Founders and Directors of Rohal Technologies. The duo had humble beginnings but today they have established a firm that is an ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certified MSME registered with UDHAYAM focused on providing Green Renewable Energy Solutions with the goal to save the planet. Read on to know more about these sustainability warriors who are making renewable energy accessible to Indians on a large scale.Rachita SharmaManaging Editor
