The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) have requested 30 percent reservation of industrial land and sheds for women in upcoming industrial parks in the state. The chamber also requested the central and state governments to release a new policy for micro and small-scale industries which comprise 97 percent of MSME units.Speaking to media persons, FKCCI President Uma Reddy stated that allotment of 30 percent land for women entrepreneurs in new industrial townships would encourage more women to pursue business and provide them with better opportunities to be successful. She stated that there has to be a special policy for micro and small industries so that they can develop through focused efforts. The FKCCI hopes to produce one million MSME entrepreneurs in Karnataka, double the existing 7.5 lakh units, an objective Reddy defined as a long-term objective. As for the increase in minimum wages to Rs 31,000 per month as proposed, Reddy said that this could put a strain on the finances of the MSME industry.Whereas the government has proposed a minimum of Rs 26,000, FKCCI has suggested Rs 21,000, from the existing Rs 15,000, observing that an increased mandate would result in industry migration to the neighboring states.
