19 JULY2025Women Chartered Accountants (CAs) in India have had a remarkable journey of accomplishment, amidst incredible challenges. The increasing number of women pursuing the study of accountancy has heralded both an era of breaking stereotypes and establishing new standards of excellence. From the first woman in CA to the thousands and thousands of women now taking accountancy as a profession, the journey and progress have been inspiring and monumental. Some organizations have played a tremendous role in growing the proportion of women involved in the profession by developing an increasingly holistic ecosystem. Today, women not only comprise a substantial proportion, but are also qualified CAs, with numerous women placed in leadership roles in private and public sector organisations, and global organisations, all contributing to the financial integrity within the economy, which is a cornerstone for economic growth. Women CAs in India are not only performing well in the conventional domains of auditing and taxation, but they are also entering the strategic leadership, consultancy, and entrepreneurship domains. The growing participation of women CAs signifies fundamental shifts in society (societal norms), education, and willingness to support equality for women in modern professional spaces. Despite the ongoing issues like work-life balance and bias, Indian CAs are thriving as a result of their competence, agility and resilience. Indian CAs are the role models for future generations of aspirants; they innovate the future accounting profession in India.
