4 November2022Editor NoteIIT Kharagpur Motivates Graduates to `Do One's Work Well' & Acquire EquanimityIndia was left to fend for itself after the British quit India in 1947, giving the young nation its well-deserved independence. It was upon our leaders to steer the young nation towards growth and progress. In view of the same, a Sarkar committee was formed that zeroed in on the need to set up Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. To be built across the countries these higher seats for technical education were to be structured on MITs. These institutes would not only produce well trained undergraduates but would also be facilitators of research, producing research workers and technical teachers as well. Thus India got its very first IIT in Hijli, Kharagpur in 1950. Situated in the sleepy locales of Kharagpur, IIT Kharagpur's motto is 'Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam', which translates to 'Excellence in action is Yoga'. The motto implies that doing one's work well is (true) yoga. In the larger context of the Gita, this phrase urges individuals to acquire equanimity because a mind of equanimity allows a man to shed distracting thoughts of the effects of his deeds and concentrate on the task before him.For years IIT Kharagpur has churned out talented professionals who have been living up to the institution's motto. One such name is of Ritwika Chowdhury, Founder, Unscript. Ritwika graduated with a major in Electronics and minor degree in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur in 2019. "During my college days, I majorly worked in AI research. It is because of my keen interest in entrepreneurship that I cofounded an AI startup during my college days", she adds. In 2021, Ritwika was able to conduct research and find out that the e-Commerce industry is facing severe trouble in the segment of video creation. Creating high quality videos with influencers and celebrities is a costly and time consuming affair. "That is when I started developing Unscript". Ritwika was a solo founder at Unscriptand has been taking care of both business and technology/research. In a very short period of time, she raised a pre-seed round and a seed round. She also built the POC, on-boarded first set of clients and built the founding team. It was after eight months of founding Unscript is when my Co-Founder joined the company.Another such leader is Megha Bajaj, Vice President, Dot & Key Skincare. Currently Megha is responsible for Dot & Key's entire business development and expansion strategy. "We want to stay ahead of the competition by adapting our business strategies to the ever-shifting marketplace, whether it means introducing new products, adjusting pricing and packaging, or exploring uncharted market niches", she adds. The current edition of Women Entrepreneur India tells the stories of these talented women leaders who have carved a niche for themselves in their respective fields.Do read on and let us know your thoughts.
