4 September2022Editor NoteFrom Walking the Halls of IIM Lucknow to Becoming Value Driven Leaders, Managers & Global PlayersAny great nation is built on the back of its hard working and talented working pool. India as a nation has an abundance of sharp minds with lofty visions; who have transformed the nation's growth. A crucial component of India's meteoric rise in the business and technology landscape can be traced back to post-independence India and Pandit Nehru's vision to build educational institutions that would transform into a seat of excellence in learning. Thus, the IITs and IIMs were born. After setting up management institutes in Calcutta, Ahmedabad and Bangalore, the vision was brought to the city of etiquettes and royalty, i.e. Lucknow. Founded in 1984, IIM Lucknow's vision is `To be a preeminent centre of excellence, generating and imparting knowledge in management and providing socially conscious and globally relevant thought leadership'. For the past 38 years, the institution has been doing exactly that. The institution of repute hasgiven to the nation plethora of `value driven leaders, managers and global players'. In essence the institute has touched millions of lives directly and indirectly. Last Month, IIM Lucknow celebrated its 38th Foundation Day. The occasion was made momentous with a tree-plantation drive which was launched by the director, Archana Shukla.MunishSharda, group executive and head (Bharat Banking) at Axis Bank, a 1997 alumnus of IIM Lucknow spoke at the occasion and highlighted `how small beginnings and big aspirations can lead to great outcomes'.Sharda's thoughts fit like poetic justice as IIM Lucknow has given rise to several leaders who did exactly that. Take for instance, Radhika Sharma Makker,HR Head, Chai Point. After spending over a decade in the training and people development space, Radhikajoined IIM Lucknowto hone her industrial proficiencies, acquire additional lenses and frames of business, review and re-examine her own experience, and prepare herself as a strategic HR leader. Acknowledging IIM Lucknow's contribution to her professional endeavours, Radhika admits that her tenure at the management institute enhanced her ability to look at things from multiple perspectives. Similar is the story of Veena Chawla, Partner, Caladrius Aero Consulting. An IIT Lucknow alumina, she stands strong, breaking the glass-ceiling of venturing into the adventurous and challenging world of Aviation Consulting in India.Nitti Gaba, Head of Business Development, VimalJonneyis another shining example. She began her career in software development after completing engineering at DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology. Eventually, she pursued a Management Program in Sales and Marketing. "Fortunately, IIM Lucknow became the novel podium that paved the path to the career I am cherishing today," says Nitti. IIM Lucknow has given birth to several such leaders.
