8 MAY2025The "Women Leadership Moonshot: "Shaping the Future" National Conference was held in New Delhi with the support of the Sankala Foundation, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA); major representatives of policy making, science, and entrepreneurship convened the conference to discuss the direction to empower women of the country. It was held in India Habitat Centre where its theme was centered on women as the protagonists of India's growth.Some of the prominent guest speakers included Dr. Kiran Bedi, former Lt. Governor of Puducherry Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa and OSD; Bharat Lal, CEO of NHRC; Dr. Vinod Paul, Member NITI Aayog; Cindy McCaffrey, UNICEF India Representative for India, underscored the need of social economic reforms to enable women realise `viksit bharat'.The chief guest of the ceremony was Dr Kiran Bedi, IPTA who spoke on the topic of the day ­ Accountability in Governance through her keynote address. In order to strengthen the public's confidence in the government institutions, she encouraged the senior officials to spend a considerable amount of time interacting with the field institutions. In addition to this, the proposal to provide thirty electric scooters to female sarpanches, with a view to enabling rural women to become more mobile, explains why Dr Bedi was an avid supporter of backing for rural women.Apart from mobility, several recommendations were made by Dr. Bedi for reforms in the care policies to boost the care industry that is mostly being managed by women. Thus, she proposed the implementation of a Welfare and Training Programme for Women Employment in this sector as a way of empowering the women socially and economically.It made it easy to find practical approaches to address the gaps provided a platform to advance the equality and call for more women leadership. The involvement of policymakers, scientists, and other business leaders were another giant leap towards the creation of an advanced India for women in the future.In such dialogues and reformative actions, slowly but surely, India is inching towards a time where it is the woman who will drive the development of the nation. IN FOCUSINDIAN WOMEN'S CRICKET TEAM REGISTER 97 RUN WIN OVER SL IN TRI-SERIES FINALNHRC & SANKALA FOUNDATION LAUNCH WOMEN LEADERSHIP MOONSHOT FOR INDIA'S FUTURESunday saw a thrilling final of the women's ODI Tri-series played between India, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Team India registered a massive 97 run win over host Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.India had won three of the four league games which qualified them for the finals. Sri Lanka on the other hand had lost the last league match against South Africa, but qualified with two wins out of four games. The Harmanpreet-led team won the toss and chose to bat first. Building on the strong batting performance throughout the tournament, the Indian openers pulled off a strong start and scored 70 runs for the first wicket. SL's first wicket was taken by Inoka Ranaweera who took Pratika Rawal's wicket (30). Smriti Mandhana (116 not out) scored her 11th WODI century before losing her wicket to Dewmi Vihanga.From the Indian side, Harleen Deol (47), Harmanpreet Kaur (41) and Jemimah Rodrigues (44) played stupendously bringing India's grand total to 342 for 7 at the end of the first innings.From the Sri Lankan side, two wickets each were taken by Malshi Madara, Dewmi Vihanga and Sugandika Kumari. Inoka Ranaweera took one wicket.Sri Lankan batting was off to a rough start and they lost their opener Hasini Perera on the third ball of the second innings. Going up against a mammoth score was no easy task for the Sri Lankan women but their batters did the best that they could with skipper Chamari Athapaththu scoring 51 and Nilakshi de Silva putting 48 runs on the board. Additionally, Vishmi Gunaratne (36), Harshitha Madavi (26) and Anushka Sanjeewani (28) contributed to Sri Lanka's score. However, Indian bowlers showcased immense grit with Sneh Rana taking four wickets for 38 runs and Amanjot Kaur taking three wickets and giving off 54 runs.The Sri Lankan team was bowled out at 245 in just 48.2 overs which made India register a 97-run victory.
