India's World Cup Heroines Win Medals, Money & National Pride

Himachal Pradesh

Renuka Singh Thakur was honoured by the Himachal Pradesh Government with a Rs 1 crore reward and the assurance of a government job for her role in India’s triumph. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu personally announced the cash prize and, during a phone call with Renuka, pledged long-term job security in recognition of her service to the nation. Celebrations erupted in her ancestral village of Parsa in Shimla’s Rohru subdivision, where locals marked the occasion with traditional pahari dance (Nati), community feasts, and a heartfelt documentary tribute, reflecting the pride and emotional connection her achievement inspired across the state.
Assam

Uma Chetry, the first woman cricketer from Assam and the entire Northeast to be part of a World Cup-winning Indian team, is yet to receive an official reward from the Assam Government following India’s ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 win. However, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) honoured her with a Rs 51 lakh cash award during a felicitation ceremony at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. The event, attended by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and ACA officials, celebrated Uma’s milestone, marking a proud moment for Northeast cricket. District units and sports associations also felicitated her, recognizing her achievement as a breakthrough for women’s cricket in the region.
