India's World Cup Heroines Win Medals, Money & National Pride

Haryana

Shafali Verma was honoured by the Haryana Government with a Rs 1 crore cash reward and appointed Brand Ambassador of the Haryana State Commission for Women. The state recognized her match-winning performance in the final, an explosive 87 runs and 2 wickets, and celebrated her as a symbol of women’s empowerment and youth inspiration. Shafali returned to a hero’s welcome in Rohtak, greeted with a cavalcade, flower showers, and a ceremonial turban by Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi. Her father and grandfather were also felicitated, highlighting the family’s pivotal support in her journey to becoming a national icon.

West Bengal

Richa Ghosh was honoured by the West Bengal Government with Rs 34 lakh, the Banga Bhushan award, and an appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) following India’s ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 victory. The cash prize reflected her 34-run match-winning knock in the final, with Rs 1 lakh awarded per run. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conferred the prestigious state honour at a grand ceremony at Eden Gardens, celebrating Richa as the “Pride of Bengal,” along with presenting her with a gold chain. The Cricket Association of Bengal also felicitated her with a golden bat and ball, in the presence of Sourav Ganguly and Jhulan Goswami, marking a historic moment for Bengal’s first women’s World Cup champion.
